A review of Speedclaw “Stardust”

Speedclaw

“Stardust”

Dying Victims Prod. 2025

Speedclaw is another entry in the catalog of Germany's Dying Victims Productions. Yes, I know, many of you will immediately say that you've heard what they release a million times before. But imagine that there are people in this world who love 80s-style music, rediscovered usually by young guys, more than life itself. Because it reminds them of their youth and the times when they took their first steps in metal music. The story will be short, because there is no need to explain anything in detail to anyone. Speedclaw hail from Croatia, a country not known for playing retro kind of metal. All the more applause for Florian for finding such a gem even there. Speedclaw are in no way inferior to other bands from the aforementioned stable, fulfilling all its conditions. “Stardust” is a very natural, heartfelt mix of speed and heavy metal. We have eight compositions full of classic riffs, from Iron Maiden, through Metallica to Exciter, based on proven formulas, without any frills. Anyway, the Croatians are another example of a band that doesn't care at all about creating anything new, because that's probably not why they formed the band in the first place. They want to at least partially approach the level of the masters who shaped their musical taste. Of course, this is not possible, if only because of the sentiment that most “oldies” (and it is usually people in their fifties who reach for such recordings) have for the classics, but nevertheless, you can feel that Speedclaw had a great time creating their songs. There is nothing to fault this album. The guitarists have done their homework perfectly, the vocals are top-notch, clean and powerful, so catchy in the choruses that you want to sing along, the rhythm section plays strongly punkish, in the style of the 1980s, and the sound engineer didn't try too hard with the computers (although you can still hear that it's not a production from four decades ago).  So? “Stardust” is another album that fans of the German label should buy, because it's a piece of good, old metal. From me, full recommendation
