Hekatoxen
„Obsidian Majesty”
Nuclear Winter Rec. 2026
I jeszcze jedna pozycja z październikowego miotu
Nuclear Winter Records.
„Obsidian Majesty” to osiem
numerów, w tym jeden akustyczny przed zamykaczem, najczystszego death metalu w
starym stylu. Siedem utworów, które swoim ciężarem, niewiarygodnie zgrabnie
ubranym w melodię, miażdży czaszki, kruszy kości i wyciska nasze truchło z krwi
niczym zawodowa sprzątaczka mokrą szmatę. To, z jaką umiejętnością Hekatoxen
aranżują swoje, utrzymane przeważnie w średnim tempie, kompozycje, to jest
najwyższa klasa rozgrywek. Niewiele jest zespołów potrafiących ubrać wspomnianą
melodię (z gatunku pancernych) w
ołowiane szaty. Każdy, absolutnie każdy numer na „Obsidian Majesty” to
absolutny rozpierdalator.
wspomnianym akustyku niejednemu z was łezka się w oku zakręci, bo nawet on jest
do szpiku kości oldskulowy. Rozdeptali mnie panowie z Hekatoxen swoim debiutem,
jak robaka. Dla każdego maniaka staroszkolnego death metalu pozycja
obowiązkowa, jeśli nie do zakupu w ciemno, to przynajmniej do sprawdzenia.
Rozczarowań nie przewiduję.

Hekatoxen
“Obsidian
Majesty”
Nuclear Winter
Rec. 2026
And here’s
another release from Nuclear Winter Records’ October line-up. Following the
excellent albums by Morbid Stench and Deconsekrated, Hekatoxen is probably just
the finishing blow, because after three spins of this record, I still cannot
get myself up from the floor. If you’re wondering who these gentlemen are and
where they’re from, the first tunes of the opening track, “Lost Souls Epitome”,
dispel any doubts. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we’re in Finland, and we’re
greeted, of course, by a massive Slugathor-style riff. It may be the first on
these recordings, but it’s certainly not the last, as there are definitely more
references to the lads from Espoo here. And not just to them, mind you, but to
other classics of Finnish death metal too. Let me mention early Sentenced or
Corpsessed, for example (just so you don’t think I’m only mentioning the
dinosaurs). ‘Obsidian Majesty’ is eight tracks, including an acoustic one
before the last, representing the purest old-school death metal. Seven tracks
which, with their sheer weight, incredibly skilfully wrapped in melody, crush
skulls, shatter bones and wring the blood from our corpses like a professional
cleaner wringing out a wet cloth. The skill with which Hekatoxen arrange their
compositions, mostly maintained at a medium tempo, is top class. Few bands are
capable of cloaking such melody (of the armoured variety) in leaden robes.
Every single track on “Obsidian Majesty” is an absolute banger. Just look at
all the brilliant riffs that make it impossible to keep your arse in your
chair, even if you glued it there with superglue, all the classic vocal
arrangements that put a huge banana on your face, all the moments that bring
back memories of your youth, all the moments that reignite your zest for life
(even though this is, after all, death metal). Because, really, you want to
live just to listen to albums like this, and I’m sure that the aforementioned
acoustic track will bring a tear to the eye of more than a few of you, because
even that track is old-school to the very core. The lads from Hekatoxen have
crushed me like a bug with their debut. It’s a must-have for any oldschool
death metal fan, if not a blind buy, then at least worth checking out. I don’t
foresee any disappointments.
