A review of Zerre “Rotting on a Golden Throne”

“Rotting on a Golden Throne”

Dying Victims Prod. 2026

There you go. Once again, I come across a band that has three full-lenght albums in its discography, but only their fourth one has reached me. Zerre are guys from Bavaria. It is well known that Bavaria is famous for Oktoberfest. And what is the best thing to listen to while drinking beer? Old-school thrash, of course. And even better if that thrash is spiced up with flammable genres such as punk or hardcore, creating a well-known and beloved mixture called crossover. Man, how I love this kind of music! First of all, because here a riff chases a riff, melody intertwines with melody, and the energy flowing from each subsequent composition explodes right in your face. The main advantage of the music created by Zerre is its above-average looseness. Everything flows so naturally that it makes you want to dance, bang your head, or break into a wild dance, whether in your own room or in front of the stage of a small club. The guys serve us so much joy on these recordings that your pants fall off your ass. Everything here goes together and works like in a Swiss watch. Excellent melodies, razor-sharp chords, old-school heavy metal solos, and solid, rough vocals, oscillating somewhere between the aforementioned genres. The gentlemen beautifully reference the classics of the genre in their work, yet they do not steal from them at all, putting the puzzle together in their own way, but with the same determination as the once widely known dinosaurs. The vocals on this album are excellent. Expressive, aggressive, and often entering into choruses or shouting over each other in dialogues, so typical of the eighties, well, fucking poetry. In terms of sound, I have no questions either. Classic, analog, not digital. Zerre is dynamite. Music that has so much energy and joy in playing that for every fan of S.O.D. or D.R.I.-style crossovers, it will be like  finding their dream gift under the Christmas tree by a little child. Great vibes. I have nothing more to add.
