A review of RAPTORE „Blackfire”

„Blackfire”

Dying Victims Productions 2022

Once again we take a look, what's up with Dying Victims Productions? So you probably already know what kind of music we will be dealing with. After all, most of you know very well what kind of climates this label prefers. And this majority is of course right. We will once again enjoy the classic music of the 80's, and its paths will be led by Argentine Raptore (currently residing in Spain), with the help of their second full-length album entitled "Blackfire". And the album is truly a noble one, and I suspect that most fans of traditional string plucking will jump out of their shoes at these sounds. "Blackfire" is a whopping 31+ minutes of feisty, fundamental Heavy/Speed Metal. This album is full of unbridled, raw energy, which is boiling from every song, and kicks really hard. The gentlemen don't calculate, they just fervently play what's in their souls, celebrating with reverence the conservative standards of the genre. Most of the time, it's a full-frontal fucking ride. Originally furious drums speed as if running amok (and sitting behind them is a gentleman with the strangely peculiar-sounding name of Smolski), galloping basses rumble ominously under the skull, and creative guitarists let their fingers fly freely over the strings, attacking us every now and then with frenzied, sawing solos and fiery, catchy riffs that are staying in our brain for longer. There's no bullshit, the guitar lines on this album are awesome. At times, their playing is so charged and energetic that if they could be touched, a person would surely be electrocuted. I haven't mentioned the vocals yet, but I'm already making up for it, as these are so manic, essential and dedicated to the cause that at times the hair on your ass grows and your molars grind. Oh, yes, the vocalist takes no prisoners. He slaps and chains, though his manner takes some time to get used to. The production may not be crystal clear by today's standards, but it's perfectly balanced. I would love to test this material live, because I have a feeling bordering on certainty that in the live version Raptore's music is cruel, and such tracks as "Triumphal March to Hell" simply destroy (in their own extremely classical way, of course). And what else is there to add? Another next to Animalize, Armory, or Venator strong shot from the DyingVictims camp. Normally a fire in the ass...and a black one at that.
