No i oto mamy przed sobą nowy twór z Nowej Zelandii.
Mówiąc „nowy” mam na myśli raczej samą nazwę, gdyż człowiek stojący za
Hecotonchir do nowicjuszy bynajmniej nie należy i tworzył, lub współtworzył,
choćby takie akty jak Sinistrous Diabolus, Venefiction, Diocletian czy
Witchrist. Rzeczona EP-ka to z kolei zaledwie mała zajawka, preludium do czegoś
większego, czego możemy spodziewać się w nieokreślonej jeszcze przyszłości. Sam
autor zresztą określa ją zbiorem utworów, które na przestrzeni ostatnich
trzydziestu lat kreowały jego spojrzenie na muzykę. Bo rzeczywiście kompozycji
autorskich nie mamy tu zbyt wiele, konkretnie dwie, na otwarcie i zakończenie.
Moim zdaniem najbliżej im do niektórych partii wspomnianego już Sinistrous
Diabolus. Mrok wylewa się tutaj z każdego, powolnie sączącego się dźwięku,
niespiesznie wciągając w iście bagienny sposób. Oba numery własne to muzyka
niezwykle klimatyczna, raczej oparta na budowaniu atmosfery niepokoju,
niepewności i lekkiego strachu przed tym, co w niej drzemie. Nie ma tu ciężkich
akordów. Gitary użyte zostały w sposób bardziej akustyczny, co w połączeniu z
ambientowym tłem tworzy nastrój magiczny i tajemniczy. Stanowi on swoistego
rodzaju kotarę, podnoszącą się a następnie pod koniec opadającą, oplatającą
autorską interpretację trzech klasycznych utworów, w kolejności: Disembowelment
(którego to wpływy nad wyraz słyszalne są w twórczości Nowozelandczyka), Asphyx
oraz Zyklon B. Myli się, kto zakłada, że numery te zostały odegrane wiernie. Wspomnę
może jedynie, że „Warfare” trwa tutaj ponad siedem minut i konia z rzędem, kto
bez podpowiedzi wskazał by na autorów oryginały po jednym odsłuchu. W każdej z
tych przeróbek słychać rękę N.K.S.’a i każda z nich poza charakterystycznymi
dla oryginału partiami, łączy się z pozostałymi stylistycznie. A nie jest
rzeczą łatwą odegrać te jakże odmiennie utwory tak, by brzmiały niczym wyjęte z
tego samego kotła. W wykonaniu Hecotonchir tak właśnie jest. Zdecydowanie warto
zapisać sobie tą nazwę w zeszycie i podkreślić na czerwono. Mam bowiem
przeczucie graniczące z pewnością, że jeśli doczekamy się kolejnego kroku w
postaci nagrań w pełni autorskich, to będzie to coś równie olbrzymiego jak
„Total Doom // Desecration”. Ja już profilaktycznie zakładam pampersa.

"Venerations of Vexation I".

Well, here we
have before us a new creation from New Zealand. When I say "new" I
rather mean the name itself, because the man behind Hecotonchir is by no means
a newcomer, and he has created, or co-created, such acts as Sinistrous
Diabolus, Venefiction, Diocletian or Witchrist. The EP in question is just a
small trailer, a prelude to something bigger, which we can expect in the as yet
unspecified future. The author himself describes it as a collection of songs
that over the past thirty years have created his musical views. For, indeed,
the author's compositions here are not too many, specifically two, for the
opening and ending. In my opinion, they are closest to some parts of the
aforementioned Sinistrous Diabolus. The darkness pours out of every slowly
oozing sound, unhurriedly engaging in a truly swampy way. Both original tracks
are extremely atmospheric music, rather based on building an atmosphere of
unease, uncertainty and slight fear of what hides within. There are no heavy
chords here. Guitars are used in a more acoustic way, which, combined with the
ambient background, creates a magical and mysterious mood. It forms a kind of
curtain, rising and then falling towards the end, wrapping around the author's
interpretation of three classic songs, in order: Disembowelment (the influence
of which is overly audible in the New Zealander's work), Asphyx and Zyklon B.
He is mistaken who assumes that these songs were played faithfully. I may only
mention that "Warfare" here lasts more than seven minutes, and a
million dollars to whoever, who, without any tips, would point to the authors
of the original after one listen. N.K.S.'s hand can be heard in each of these
reworkings, and each of them, in addition to the characteristic parts of the
original, blends with the other ones stylistically. And it's not an easy thing
to play these very different songs in such a way that they sound like they were
taken out of the same cauldron. In Hecotonchir's performance they do. It is
definitely worth writing this name down in your notebook and underlining it in
red. For I have a feeling bordering on certainty that if we live to see the
next step in the form of all-author recordings, it will be something as huge as
"Total Doom // Desecration". I'm already prophylactically
putting on my diaper.
