Worm Altar
“Pillars of Eternal Dusk”
Dawnbreed
Rec. / Gurgling Gore 2026
Komu gruzu, komu, bo idę do domu!
Bo to naprawdę
konkretna pozycja. Na „Pillars of Eternal Dusk” składa się sześć kompozycji.
Utrzymanych w przeważającej większości w tempie średnim, z tendencją do
z innego kontynentu).
„Pillars of Eternal Dusk” to nieco

Rubble death
metal anybody? I definitely want some, because I can never get enough of this
kind of music. Worm Altar is a new band from the States. The guys got together
about four years ago, and, as the commandments of old-school metal dictate,
they’ve recorded two demos and an EP so far. They already get a huge thumbs-up
from me for choosing this path. But now it’s time for their full-length debut,
for which they earn an even bigger thumbs-up. Because this is a truly strong
release. “Pillars of Eternal Dusk” consists of six tracks. Most of them are
mid-tempo, with a tendency toward sudden accelerations followed by sharp
decelerations. No, this doesn’t mean by any means that this pattern repeats
regularly. Rather, the musicians don’t rigidly stick to a single theme but
skillfully shuffle them around. If, however, one were to assign a central theme
to this album, it would be the all-encompassing, ear-flooding sludge. Stinking,
thick, and intensely organic. These guys aren’t into getting inventive. Their
recordings are rooted in the classics of death metal, both the oldest and the
slightly more contemporary. So you can mentally link names like Funebrarum,
Temple Nightside, Winter, or even Bolt Thrower (just so each name is from a
different continent). What clearly unites all these influences is an incredible
heaviness, seasoned just right, with almost pharmaceutical precision, with a
leaden yet putrid melody. There’s no room here for any form of life. Death has
taken up residence in the Americans’ music. Not the hooded, scythe-wielding death
we know from pictures, but a truly terrifying one, majestic in its own right,
extinguishing the light. “Pillars of Eternal Dusk” is just over half an hour of
laboriously digging out of a grave, struggling for breath, as Worm Altar bury
us with every riff, or every shovelful of damp earth, with maniacal efficiency,
leaving no chance of survival. This album crushes you with its consistency.
There are no weak points, it crushes you with its sheer weight, it crushes you
with its sound… I can’t emerge from this confrontation unscathed. I feel
completely knocked out. A fantastic debut that I recommend to every fan of
dense, swampy metal.
