Dziś mamy coś dla maniaków staroszkolnego death
metalu. Dwa lata temu hiszpański Intolerance wypuścił swój, całkiem niezły
zresztą, debiut zatytułowany „Dark Paths of Humanity”, a za chwil parę, pod
banderą Memento Mori (wersja CD) oraz Godz ov War (winyl i kaseta), ukaże się następca tegoż.
„Waking Nightmares of an Endless Void” to naturalna kontynuacja ścieżki obranej
przez zespól na samym początku, z tym zastrzeżeniem, że kompozycyjnie panowie
zrobili zdecydowany krok wprzód. Jeśli weźmiemy pod uwagę death metal z
początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych, to oczywistym faktem jest, iż tutaj prochu
się nie wymyśli. Wszystko w gatunku zostało już przez lata zagrane, i jedynym wyzwaniem
dla kontynuatorów tamtych wspaniałych tradycji jest utrzymanie odpowiedniego
poziomu aranżacyjnego. A pod tym względem Hiszpanie zdecydowanie czują ducha
lat minionych. Te osiem nowych numerów to w zasadzie stary death metal w
pigułce. Przede wszystkim nie ma tu żadnych wyścigów. Przyspieszenia, owszem,
zdarzają się, ale większa część materiału utrzymana jest w tempie średnim.
Jeśli pomyślicie przy tym o takich nazwach jak Axphyx czy Bolt Thrower, to
będzie to odpowiedni tok rozumowania. Oczywiście skojarzeń można mieć tutaj
zdecydowanie więcej. Death, Grave, Morgoth, Benediction, Monstrosity… I mimo
braku oryginalności wszystko poskładane jest na tych nagraniach perfekcyjnie. Zdecydowanym
priorytetem dla Intolerance są riffy. Te mają miażdżyć, uderzać niczym
dziesięciotonowy młot, burzyć budowle i wywoływać kataklizmy. Ten album pełen
jest masywnych harmonii, rytmicznych fragmentów do pomachania łbem czy
nienachlanie melodyjnych pasaży i solówek. Jeśli chodzi o wokal, to w zasadzie
mamy tu do czynienia z encyklopedycznym przykładem na to, jak powinien w death
metalu brzmieć rzyg. Pełen pasji, głęboki, chwilami wchodzący w wyższe
rejestry, barwą przypominający jednego z największych klasyków, Martina van
Drunena. Rzecz ostatnia, nie mniej ważna niż to o czym już wspomniałem, to
brzmienie. Kurwa, ten album jest żywcem wyrwany z lat dziewięćdziesiątych, z
cała królującą wówczas organicznością. Jest tu odpowiedni ciężar, naturalność,
brak komputerowej obróbki, a jednocześnie całkowita czytelność. Cholera,
słucham tych piosenek i staram się znaleźć cokolwiek, do czego mógłbym się
dojebać, ale nie znajduję! „Waking Nightmares of an Empty Void” nie ma słabych
punktów, jest kurewsko równy i niesamowicie nośny. Wspaniały hołd dla lat
dziewięćdziesiątych. Z całego serca polecam!

Today we have
something for old-school death metal maniacs. Two years ago, the Spanish
Intolerance released their, by the way quite good, debut album entitled “Dark
Paths of Humanity”, and in a few moments, under the flag of Memento Mori (CD
version) and Godz ov War (vinyl and cassette), its successor will be released.
“Waking Nightmares of an Endless Void” is a natural continuation of the path
taken by the band at the very beginning, with the caveat that compositionally
the gentlemen have taken a decisive step forward. If we consider death metal
from the early nineties, it is an obvious fact that powder can’t be reinvented here.
Everything in the genre has already been played over the years, and the only
challenge for the continuators of those glorious traditions is to maintain an
appropriate level of arrangements. And in this respect the Spaniards definitely
feel the spirit of years gone by. These eight new tracks are basically old
death metal in a nutshell. First of all, there’s no racing here. Accelerations,
yes, they happen, but most of the material is kept at a medium tempo. If you
think of names like Axphyx or Bolt Thrower at this point, it's an appropriate
line of reasoning. Of course, there are definitely more associations to be had
here. Death, Grave, Morgoth, Benediction, Monstrosity... And despite the lack
of originality, everything is put together perfectly on these recordings. A
definite priority for Intolerance are the riffs. These are meant to crush, to
hit like a ten-ton hammer, to bring down buildings and cause cataclysms. This
album is full of massive harmonies, rhythmic passages to wave your head or
unobtrusively melodic passages and solos. As for the vocals, what we have here
is basically an encyclopedic example of what a puke should sound like in death
metal. Passionate, deep, at times entering higher registers, with a timbre
reminiscent of one of the greatest classics, Martin van Drunen. The last thing,
no less important than what I've already mentioned, is the sound. Fuck, this
album is ripped alive from the nineties, with all the organicness that reigned
then. There's just the right amount of weight, naturalness, no computer
processing, yet total readability. Heck, I’m listening to these songs and trying
to find anything I could point out, but I can't! “Waking Nightmares of an Empty
Void” has no weak points, it's fucking even and incredibly catchy. A wonderful
tribute to the nineties. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
