Carnal Tomb
"Embalment
In Decay"
Testimony Rec. 2023
Carnal Tomb is a
band that is about to celebrate its first round anniversary. During this period
the gentlemen have released two full-lenght albums, several EPs and splits.
Today they return with album number three and once again deliver exactly what
you'd expect from them. That is, death metal at a decidedly high level. Death
metal almost crystal clear in terms of genre. Death metal embedded very deeply
in the canons of the old school. Not seeking for originality, as the
inspirations that probably guided the Germans could be pointed out in various
parts of the world, although by far the greatest density of them is of European
origin. There is a lot of Swedish sand, Dutch aggression, but also a bit of
overseas atmosphere in the nine tracks on the album. Carnal Tomb do not stand
in the contest for the world's most brutal, fastest or most progressive band.
At the same time, they try to balance their songs appropriately, so that they
don’t sound after one fashion. Hence, in addition to rather simple and directly
striking harmonies, often adorned with a carefully balanced dose of melody, you
will find some more technical parts, and sometimes even a surprising passage. In
addition to the massive-sounding guitar lines, a significant role is played by
the clearly pulsating bass in the background, which can at times be associated
with the master DiGiorgio. Cryptic Tormentor's vocals, on the other hand, with
their timbre and style at times are quite reminiscent of Malte Gericke,
although I don't think this is an intentional imitation. To this, the gents
added a few cool solos, dressed everything in the right sounding robes, gave it
a classic graphic design, supplied it with graveyard lyrics and... we have an
album that should give every death metal maniac a lot of joy. Turn on
"Embalment In Decay", turn up the volume and bang your head. Because
these recordings were made for exactly that purpose. Exquisite in its
simplicity, classic, organic and reeking of crypt material. Death fucking
metal!
