A review of Hallucinator "Another Cruel Dimension"

Hallucinator

"Another Cruel Dimension"

Dying Victims Prod. 2022

Since Dying Victims, we know that whatever we get from them, it will be in the old style. This label serves only old chestnuts, or if you prefer, songs that you have already heard before. It is no different in the case of the American Hallucinator’s debut. As soon as the intro sfinishes, not the only one on this record by the way, we fly straight into the eighties, maximum up to the beginning of the nineties. The gentlemen entertain us with thrash metal, strongly embellished with death metal chic, and they do it according to an old recipe that had been proven many times. Without trying to perform technical fireworks or introducing additional, apart from the basic, instruments. Do you know a band like Possession? No, well, a rhetorical question of course, but not pointless. Hallucinator play strongly in vein of Baccera’s formation. Fast paced, sharply sewing guitars plus a bit distorted vocals are basically all Americans need to record a, colloquially speaking, kicking ass album. The early Kreator or the sped-up Venom will also pass through your mind at times, but even though everything is kept in a rather hermetic style, there is no question of monotony or pattern playing. In these compositions you can feel the initial spirit, which accompanied the bands forty years ago. And if I add that the sound engineer made sure that this spirit also lives in a hundred percent organic, heavily dirty sound of "Another Cruel Dimension", it is not appropriate to ask any more questions. Every old metalhead will swallow this album like a stork swallows a frog. The more so that the release, or in fact the Dying Victims Productions' reissue, additionally contains the debut demo and the EP recorded in 2021, which is everything the band has recorded so far, a total of seventy-five minutes of music. For me, this huge, mentioned before old chestnut, is a feast much more delicious than the gourmet dishes in a high-class restaurant. To sum up - "Another Cruel Dimension" is a very good, old school, rude and calculating metal. Indeed, every next sentence in this review would be redundant.
