Że ta EP-ka się kroi, dowiedziałem się już podczas przeprowadzania wywiadu z Kyle’m
Symons’em, który to być może mieliście okazję przeczytać w ostatnim numerze
R’lyeh zine. No i według zapowiedzi, właśnie za chwilę wydawnictwo to ujrzy
światło dzienne nakładem Redefining Darkness. Materiał to krótki, bowiem
zamykający się w dziewięciu minutach, jednak jeśli podobał wam się debiutancki
„Peace Through Tyranny”, to „The Thoughts and Prayers” będzie niejako idealnym
wspomnianego albumu uzupełnieniem. Całość zarejestrowana została zresztą przy
okazji tej samej sesji nagraniowej. Na pierwszy ogień idzie tytułowy numer
autorski. Nieco bardziej stonowany i deathmetalowy, z zahaczającymi o klasykę
hardcore’a akordami. Może właśnie dlatego rzeczona kompozycja znalazła się w
tym miejscu, gdyż idealnie współgra z pojawiającymi się zaraz po niej coverami.
Pierwszym z nich jest szybki strzał, czyli „Memories of Tomorrow” Suicidal Tendencies,
podkręcony na grindową modłę, chwytający za szmaty i rzucający z całą siłą o
glebę. Taki szybki nokaut, którego cudem uniknąć mógłby jedynie Rocky Balboa.
Następny na liście „World Painted Blood” budzi we mnie nieco mieszane uczucia.
Może dlatego, iż jest to średni utwór sam w sobie. A dodatkowo przyprawiony
grindowym blastem staje się jeszcze mniej wyrazisty. Chyba jednak nie był to do
końca przemyślany wybór, bo ten element „The Thoughts and Prayers” przelatuje
tak trochę bez większych emocji. Może to i dobrze, bo zaserwowany na
zakończenie „Screaming at the Wall” punkowego, nie znanego mi dotychczas Minor
Threat, to kolejny cios, po którym podnieść się nie zdoła już nikt. Prosty
numer z wchodzącym bardzo wyrazistym riffem, idealnym do moshu, to na
koncertach będzie prawdziwy killer, czyniący większe spustoszenie, niż wrzucona
do młyna laska dynamitu. Miło, że panowie z Kill Division postanowili umilić
nam czas i dorzucić mały bonus do zeszłorocznego dania głównego. Takie desery
to ja uwielbiam. Petarda!

That this EP is
on the way, I already found out while making an interview with Kyle Symons,
which you may have had a chance to read in the last issue of R'lyeh zine. Well,
according to the announcement, the release is about to see the light of day by
Redefining Darkness Records. The material is short, as it closes in nine
minutes, but if you liked the debut "Peace Through Tyranny", then
"The Thoughts and Prayers" will be, in a way, a perfect complement to
the said album. The whole material, by the way, was recorded at the same
recording session. First up is the author's title number. Slightly more subdued
and deathmetal, with chords hooked on hardcore classics. Maybe that's why the
composition is here, as it perfectly harmonizes with the covers that appear
right after it. The first is a quick shot, namely "Memories of
Tomorrow" by Suicidal Tendencies, cranked up in grind fashion, grabbing
and throwing you forcefully against the ground. The kind of quick knockout that
only Rocky Balboa could miraculously avoid. Next on the list, "World
Painted Blood" evokes somewhat mixed feelings in me. Maybe that's because
it's an average track in itself. And additionally spiced with a grind blast it
becomes even less expressive. I guess it wasn't a fully thought-out choice,
though, because this element of "The Thoughts and Prayers" flies by a
bit without much emotion. Maybe that's a good thing, because served up at the
end "Screaming at the Wall" by the punk band Minor Threat, which
I've never heard before, is another blow from which no one can recover. A
simple song with a very distinctive riff, perfect for mosh, which will be a
real killer at concerts, wreaking more havoc than a stick of dynamite thrown
into the moshpit. It's nice that the gentlemen of Kill Division decided to make
our time more pleasant and add a little bonus to last year's main course. Such
desserts are what I love. A real firecracker!
