Scumripper
“For a Few Fixes More”
Dying Victims Prod. 2025
How beautifully Scumripper has fit into my Friday
night! I was just sitting at another beer, wandering what to listen to. And it
hit, quite randomly, on “For a Few Fixes More”. Holy shit, what an album this
is! I hadn't heard their debut album released six years ago, so the hit from
the Finns was to me completely unexpected. The album is just under half an hour
of a mix of thrash, black and death metal at its best. The guys from the land
of a thousand lakes don't limit themselves in their work in any respect. Here you will find slower songs, as well as
fast slaps on your face. Sharp, direct riffing, which can be associated with
crossover bands, as well as more directly referring to the classics of the
genres mentioned above. At times I would even say that elements of classic
heavy metal creep into this music, which when combined with heavier playing
create something akin to Sentenced's “Amok.” Listen carefully to “Exhume the
Body and Disturb the Peace” and you'll admit I'm right. The most important
factor determining the value of this album is its groove. There isn't a song on
this album that doesn't make you mosh wildly and make your heart beat faster. I
don't know if it's the fraternity of alcohol that connects me more with the
Finns at this point, or their love for the old-school music I grew up with.
Because you won't find musical innovation on “For a Few Fixes More.” Only a
love for music that was played three decades ago. Everything here is old. The drumming,
the riffing, even the singing (although falling more into a black metal tone,
it's painfully classic if you look at the melodic line). And speaking of the
melodic line, there's no denying that aside from the aforementioned Sentenced,
Scumripper draws very extensively from their native black or death metal scene.
Also, fantastic this album sounds. Almost demo-like, while maintaining a
stinking organic feeling. The only thing I don't much like is the fucked up
colorful cover. Such a bit forcefully “old-schoolish”. However, if we leave
aside this aesthetic thread, “For a Few Fixes More” is a great, kick-ass,
old-school release that will sweep the floor with you. Cheers!
