Iron Curtain
"Savage
Dawn"
Dying Victims
Prod. 2024
Equally a year
after the release of the "Metal Gladiator" EP, Spain's Iron Curtain
returns with their fifth full material. The gentlemen have been wandering
around the scene for sixteen years, so I'm convinced that to the vast majority
of heavy metal music geeks any broader presentation of the band is superfluous.
So let's get straight to the point. "Savage Dawn" is a continuation
of the path started on "Road To Hell". Classic speed / heavy metal
from the likes of Iron Angel, Running Wild or Exciter, this is exactly what you
would expect from a crew from the Iberian Peninsula. What has always been Iron Curtain's
great strength is the absolute sincerity and joy that comes from virtually
every sound. You can hear that the gentlemen sucked heavy
metal with their mother's milk, so changing trends or prevailing fashions will
not change their approach to metal even a bit. And if the creator has fun while
composing the material, it is very likely that the same will be true of the
recipient. And here it works out exactly right. These eight (if you don't count
the intro / outro) songs are pure heavy metal fun, with a heavy dose of
singable melodies, excellent solos and catchy choruses on classic metal themes.
There really is a lot of good riffing here, sometimes heavily groovy, elsewhere
rubbing lightly against glam rock playing. However, in the case of such music,
probably no one in love with it is bothered by the lack of any innovations or
unnecessary quirks. On the contrary, these elements are the least desirable
here. This is music for purists of 1980s creativity. Which, of course, does not
mean that the Spaniards' work is aimed at a hermetically sealed audience. I
assure you that with a good beer, even the biggest orthodox of more
contemporary genres will raise a toast and sing the joyful verses of
"Savage Dawn" with you. Such
heavy metal is what I like, respect, recommend.
