Zacznijmy może od tego, że skład Eventide tworzą
panowie z francuskiego Epitaphe. Jest to jednak informacja czysto personalna,
gdyż tutaj, tworzą oni muzykę kompletnie odmienną od tej, która znamy z ich głównego
zespołu. Jednocześnie nie mniej ciekawą i intrygującą. Krótko mówiąc,
„Waterline” to nieco ponad czterdzieści minut muzyki ambientowo – drone’owej, w
której zastosowano bardzo ciekawy zabieg. Przynajmniej ja to tak odbieram.
Mianowicie, poza wstępem do „”Eventide”, nie znajdziemy na tym wydawnictwie
wokali. Ich rolę przejmuje… saksofon. I o ile zastosowanie tego instrumentu, w
muzyce wszelakiej, nie jest żadnym novum, tak
tutaj jego rola została faktycznie wysunięta na pierwszy plan. Opowiada
on zatem swoje, smutne dość, a na pewno nie napawające optymizmem, historie w
sposób nienachlany i bardzo wciągający. Chwilami jego partie kojarzyć się mogą
z muzyką filmową, zwłaszcza polskim kinem z lat osiemdziesiątych, tudzież ze
sposobem użycia tego instrumentu przez Wędrowcy – Tułacze - Zbiegi. W tle
natomiast towarzyszą mu wszelkiego rodzaju syntezatorowe tła, miejscami
wzbogacane pianinem oraz wszelkiego rodzaju efektami. Bardzo rzadko pojawia się
także delikatny motyw gitarowy czy basowe podbicie. Całość natomiast tworzy
silne wrażenie pewnego rodzaju teatralnej improwizacji, perfermensu mającego na
celu uchwycenie chwili. Nie znaczy to przy tym, że muzyka na „Waterline” jest
chaotyczna. Ona jest niebywale spójna, stąd też tych czterech kompozycji słucha
się w zasadzie jak jednego, długiego utworu. Muzyka Eventide na pewno nie jest
z rodzaju do słuchania przy odkurzaniu, czy innych obowiązkach domowych. Wymaga
pełnego skupienia i otwarcia się na otaczające nas dźwięki. Jest, mimo swojego
dość przygnębiającego klimatu, idealnym środkiem wyciszającym, pozwalającym na
oczyszczenie umysłu. Jeżeli lubicie muzyczne podróże, to sprawdźcie sobie
„Waterline”. Gwarantuję, że doznacie przy tym albumie wielu wrażeń.

Let's start
perhaps by saying that Eventide's lineup is made up of the gentlemen from
French Epitaphe. However, this is purely personal information, because here,
the guys create music completely different from what we know from their mother
band. At the same time, no less interesting and intriguing. In short,
"Waterline" is a little over forty minutes of ambient and drone music
with a very interesting treatment. At least that's how I perceive it. Namely,
except for the introduction to ""Eventide"", we won’t find any
vocals on this release. Their role is taken over by... the saxophone. And while
the use of this instrument, in music of all kinds, is no novelty, here its role
has actually been brought to the fore. Thus, it tells his, rather sad and
certainly not optimistic, stories in an unobtrusive and very engaging way. At
times its parts may bring to mind film music, especially Polish cinema from the
1980s, or the way the instrument is used by Wędrowcy – Tułacze - Zbiegi. In the
background, however, it is accompanied by all kinds of synthesizer parts, at
times enriched by piano and all kinds of effects. A delicate guitar motif or
bass boost also appears, but very rarely. The whole thing, creates a strong impression of a kind of theatrical
improvisation, a performance aimed at capturing the moment. At the same time,
it doesn’t mean that the music on "Waterline" is chaotic. She is
remarkably coherent, hence the four compositions are listened to basically as
one long piece. Eventide's music is certainly not of the kind to listen to
while vacuuming or doing other household chores. It requires full concentration
and openness to the sounds around us. It is, despite its rather depressing
atmosphere, an ideal calming agent, allowing you to clear your mind. If you like
musical journeys, check out "Waterline" for yourself. I guarantee
that you will experience many sensations with this album.
