A review of Incinerated "Lobotomise"

Incinerated

"Lobotomise"

Dawnbreed Rec. 2024 (Re-issue)

Anyone else remember Mortician? The answer is not at all as obvious as it seems. The Americans, although theoretically still active, haven't released an album in twenty years. On the other hand, their last album, which still held the level as such, although "Zombie Apocalypse" was basically an EP, was released almost a quarter of a century ago. However, if there are those out there on the other side of the monitor who perhaps remember the famous concert in Zielona Gora, and are a bit nostalgic for sounds like "Hacked Up For Barbecue," they will probably be happy to know that a CD reissue of Incinerated's second album, originally released a few years back, has just been released. What do the two have in common? Well, rather a lot. Incinerated is, in simple terms, Will Rahmer's legacy, and that's the whole point. Assuming you're unfamiliar with this Aussies, and I'd play you any track from the aforementioned album, each of you, but I mean literally each of you, would immediately say "Oh! A new Mortician!". The gentlemen hit exactly the same tones, serving up bubbling, grind riffs on strings that probably hang down to their knees, accompanied by wildly pounding drums. Of course, not all the time, here we also have those characteristic slowdowns to the mosh riff, at which the atmosphere gets more suffocating than hell itself. Listening to Incinerated you can feel like you're on a seesaw, once up, slowing down to zero, quickly rushing back, stop, and blasting forward again. That's more or less how it looks, although of course I'm coloring a bit, because "Lobotomise" is not at all that 100% template. However, certain patterns in individual compositions cannot be overlooked. Noo, of course, to make it all agreeable, instead of a growl conveying some specific words we have here a total, phlegmatic bubbling. I’m guessing, by the way, that Incinerated don't have lyrics at all, but the sound of the maw is simply an additional instrument, creating an even more graveyard-pathological mood.  This material is as fucking direct as its original, with the only difference being that, considered the second full album, "Lobotomise" is only fourteen shots in seventeen minutes. And I will tell you that such an amount is sufficient for me, because, however, approaching an hour, the first two Mortician full-lenghts by the end were already a bit boring and I usually split them in half. With this intensity of sound, this is really the perfect timing. Do I need to add anything more? Probably not.
