Personally, I’ve
been waiting for this debut very impatiently. After all, Sexmag has made itself
known well enough, I think, that it's time for a debut in the full sense of the
word. And not only thanks to the previously released demos and EPs, but also
fantastic live performances, where the guys give hellava show. Of course,
“Sexorcysm” is a continuation of the band's core themes, that is the
cultivation of 1980s thrash metal at its best. From whom the guys draw their
inspiration leaves no doubt, as I mentioned in my earlier reviews. And if someone
doesn't remember, the first (right after the intro) “”Inkubus“” will dispel any
doubts, because only a deaf person won't hear the old Kat in this track. I said
“in this track”? “Sorry, it was a mistake...” to quote a classic from polish
cult series “Zmiennicy”. Here the whole album has this Kostrzewski element in
it, and the lyrics sung in Polish emphasize it even more. But lest it be said
that Sexmag rips off the gods of domestic thrash! The Silesians fantastically
develop classic themes by adding a handful of other inspirations from a similar
period, primarily drawn from the protoplasts of the genre that was later called
black metal. Any analyst will find threads of Master's Hammer, Destruction or
(above all) Tormentor in these songs. Besides, Sexmag doesn't hide with these
influences at all. They even brazenly use them to create music they themselves
would probably like to listen to. And therein lies the whole secret of
“Sexorcysm.” This is an album that puts a monument to the classic bands that
many people my age grew up on. Given that old music is becoming more and more
popular (although that word stinks a bit to me, though) among young people,
there's also a chance that Sexmag will reach more than just old geezers with
their music. Every old-school music maniac should buy this album at the
earliest opportunity, because it is a piece of good music and a powerful metal
punch right between the eyes.
