LUCIFUGE
"Infernal Power"
Dying Victims Productions 2021
German Lucifuge started as a one-man project, making a simple as a flail construction, raw Black Metal. As new members joined the band, the music of the group evolved to take on a much more Thrash / Black Metal face. Later, a pinch of elements characteristic of classic Heavy and Speed Metal was added to it, and this is the mixture we are dealing with on this year's, fourth album by the horde. It is relatively simple to play, which may not reap your ass off, but when listened to it loud enough in a group of alcohol-drenched friends, it undoubtedly brings quite a lot of joy. "Infernal Power" will certainly not win any awards for originality or innovation, but it is the perfect music to drink a few deeper ones and headbang for Satan. Lucifuge relies on tried and tested ingredients that are used in various configurations and are deeply rooted in the 1980s. So here we will hear eagerly and vigorously pounding drums supported by classically rumbling bass, blackened, raw, energetic riffs containing large amounts of poisonous melodies, being Thrash and Speed Metal bastards, solos almost straight from root Heavy Metal, and maniacal vocals that color and the way they are made is clearly associated with Quorthon. It’s a direct, uncomplicated, catchy and vital music with the immortal feeling known from the production of Motörhead, Venom or Bathory, so it gets into you without any major problems, and at times it can kick the listener's ass quite well. The sound, like the music, is furious, characteristically dirty, rusty, grainy, sometimes even punkish, so the songs included here whip hard. I have the same problem with albums of this type each time and the newest Lucifuge material is no exception. Everything is exemplary, "Infernal Power" is dynamic, well-written and made with heart. But what I'm missing is that devilish spark that would make me fucking jump off my boots and fuck me like an old whore. Therefore, I cannot write anything more about this production, except that it is another, reliable, solid dose of music immersed as deeply as possible in traditional structures, which is perfect for crazy, drunken parties under the aegis of the horned one. So Horns Up !!!
