“Of Soil Unaerthed”

Trochę się premiera tego albumu przeciągnęła. Pierwotne plany opiewały na jego wydanie latem zeszłego roku, ale z różnych powodów ujrzy on światło dzienne dopiero w tym miesiącu. No ale na dobre rzeczy, a do takich na pewno zalicza się “Of Soil Unaerthed” zawsze warto poczekać. Śledząc losy zespołu od wydanej w 2012 taśmy demo wyraźnie słychać, że ewoluował on, i to w pozytywnym tego słowa znaczeniu, by chyba ostatecznie odnaleźć swój styl. Nie znaczy to bynajmniej, że na nowym krążku Szwajcarzy wychodzą do nas z jakąś nowatorską propozycją. Wszystko co usłyszymy na ich najnowszym wydawnictwie to staoszkolny death metal z lekka okraszony thrashowym sznytem. Panowie wiedzą, co w nazwie gatunku oznacza “death”, stąd też muzyka w ich wykonaniu jest faktycznie śmiercionośna. Przeważnie bardzo intensywna i gęsta. Raz chłoszcząca akordami na pełnej szybkości, gdzie indziej rozrywająca wolniejszymi partiami. Rozbierając wszystko na czynniki pierwsze możemy spotkać tu fińskie i szwedzkie melodie (zwróćcie uwagę na Amorphisową końcówkę “On Primal Wings” albo fragmenty “Trepanation Rites” mocno zalatujące wczesnym Cemetery), tłusty, Dismemberowy bas czy wręcz Sodomowe gitary. Nie to jednak, z jakiej gliny ten Golem został ulepiony jest najważniejsze. Istotny jest fakt, że osiem kompozycji na “Of Soil Unaerthed” to strzały w potylicę od nie uznających terminu “jeniec” barbarzyńców. Doskonale przy tej agresywnej nucie sprawdza się występujący dość często dialog na dwa głosy, agresywny growl i rozpaczliwy krzyk. To wszystko się zazębia i idealnie uzupełnia. Brzmienie dopełnia całości. Organiczne, pełne brudu a jednak odpowiednio selektywne, mogące kojarzyć się z niemieckim Beyond czy Omegavortex. Kurwa mać, “Of Soil Unaerthed” jest jedna z tych płyt, które słuchają się same. Osobiście miałem możliwość zapoznać się z tymi nagraniami już dość dawno, ale za każdym razem kiedy do nich wracam spuszczają mi taki sam bezkompromisowy wpierdol. Chcecie death metalowej esencji? Łapcie ten album, bo to elementarny przykład na to, jak ten gatunek powinno się dziś grać. Ekstraklasa!

Releasing this album took some time. The original plans were to turn it loose last summer, but for various reasons it will not be released until this month. Well, for good things, such as "Of Soil Unaerthed", it's always worth waiting. Following the band from the demo tape released in 2012, you can clearly hear that it has evolved, in a positive way, to eventually find its style. It does not mean, however, that the Swiss come to us with some innovative offer on the new album. Everything we can hear on their newest release is the oldschool death metal with a slight thrash flavor. The guys know what "death" means in the name of the genre, hence the music they perform is actually lethal. Usually very intense and dense. Once lapped with chords at full speed, elsewhere bursting with slower parts. Taking everything apart, we can meet Finnish and Swedish melodies here (pay attention to the Amorphis-like ending of "On Primal Wings" or fragments of "Trepanation rites" strongly smelling of the early Cemetery), fat, Dismemberish bass or even Sodom guitars. However, it is not the clay from which this Golem was made that is the most important. It is significant that the eight compositions on "Of Soil Unaerthed" are shots in the back of the head from barbarians who do not recognize the term "a captive". The quite frequent dialogue for two voices, an aggressive growl and a despairing scream, work perfectly with this aggressive note. It all overlaps and complements perfectly. The sound completes the whole. Organic, full of dirt and yet appropriately selective, which can be associated with the German Beyond or Omegavortex. Fuckin’ hell! "Of Soil Unaerthed" is one of those albums that get to listen themselves. Personally, I had the opportunity to hear these recordings quite a long time ago, but each time I come back to them, they give me the same uncompromising fuck up. Do you need death metal essence? Get this album because it is an elementary example of how this genre should be played today. Top league!
