Sadistic
Goatmessiah
“Violence”
Dying Victims
Prod. 2025
I have never
hidden the fact that some bands attract my attention solely because of their
name or album cover. In the case of Sadistic Goatmessiah, it was the first
mentioned factor that made me put the album on my player. The latter was the
fact that it was released by the German Dying Victims, which is usually a
guarantee of high quality. This is no different in this case, although I am far
from calling Sadistic Goatmessiah a special revelation, even within the
aforementioned stable. The guys come from across our western border and play
black metal-tinged thrash metal. This influence is very direct here, because
while their guitar structures are indeed mostly thrash, there are also
harmonies reminiscent of the second wave of black metal, mainly the
Scandinavian one. However, both of these genres share a factor I always appreciate, namely pure savagery.
Most of “Violence” is indeed violent, and it kicks ass so hard that dust flies.
The guys pick the strings at full speed with maniacal fervor, at times strongly
reminiscent of the pioneers of thrash, especially those from their own country.
There are also many motifs from the 1980s on this album, appearing not only in
the melodies themselves but also in the structures of some compositions, for
example in their endings (for example, “Messiah of Death and Doom”). In
addition, in the thicket of the aforementioned wilderness, the gentlemen are
sometimes able to weave in a calmer fragment, giving a moment to catch your
breath before the next relentless attack. I also like the vocal diversity,
because apart from sharp screams, we can hear higher registers and clean singing
here. Generally, everything is in place in this case, and “Violence” is a solid
release in the Dying Victims catalog. This material neither stands out nor
lowers the label's standards. So if you like this kind of new/old music, based
mainly on the classics, you will definitely be satisfied with this album. It's
cool for me.
