A review of Lucifuge "Hexensabbat"

Lucifuge

"Hexensabbat"

Dying Victims Prod. 2024

Lucifige is not a band for whose next albums I wait impatiently, looking out of the window from behind the curtain. Because I don't have to wait. The gentlemen regularly plant new recordings under my nose, being one of the most regular bands on the scene. "Hexensabbat" is album number six. An album that doesn't really bring anything new, neither to the band's style nor to the canon of the genre. But if you like Teutonic thrash metal played somewhat in the black metal fashion, beware passing by this album indifferently. Despite the fact that there are so many well-known and loved melodies here that you can count them in wheelbarrows, the Germans give me hellava joy with their music. There's a natural ease in this music, a tribute to the old school, and really good melodies reminiscent of the 1980s and 1990s. Each, and I mean literally each, of the tracks on this album is the quintessence of metal. It's impossible to stand still while listening to it, as your foot stomping on its own and your clenched fist thrusting into the air. Whether the guys play fast or at a moderate pace, their sounds are constantly accompanied by that spirit that once whispered in the ears of such personages as Petrozza, Schimer or Angelripper. Classic, sharp riffs, great solos, straightforward drum beats and rough vocals. If one still manages to put these worn-out elements together in the right way, as the heart dictates, without the shadow of a pose or pretending to be someone one is not, then we come out with "Hexensabbat" in the equation. There are no boundary breakers here, but, to quote a classic, "Evil has no boundaries." So reach for this material, fly to Sabbath and dance there merrily around the fire to the songs of Lucifuge.
